Thanks, Julia. :D

If you're new here, I'm ALL ABOUT free will! :D

That's part of the problem with polling. Due to free will, people have no incentive to tell the truth. If a gal's embarrassed to say she's single, she's going to say she's in a relationship. If she's in a relationship, but it's not doing anything for her, she's going to say she's in a relationship. It's not as likely, IMO, that if she's in a relationship, she'll lie and say she's single.

So, not only are there way more women here, and they're importing more every day (not even counting the endless stream of tourists), but there are even more available women than admitted they were available.

On top of that.. Just because there are guys in this town who declare themselves single, that doesn't mean that every single one of them can pull one girl for himself (much less, two or three), so the number of guys that you subtract from the number of gals to get the percentages is actually too high, due to lack of ability.

What you bring up, which is an interesting blog topic on its own, "People who choose to be single, rather than settle", throws another wrench in the game. Just because a gal lists herself as single, that doesn't mean that any of the guys can corral her. However, that also makes things worse for the myriad women that would LIKE to get a date in this town, because the perpetually (habitually? haha) single gals are invited out on multiple dates during the week, instead of several women getting a date that week with those same guys.

The same phenomenon applies to sex. If a gal elects to remain single, yet is physically hooking up with several guys, all the women who are trying to get those guys to commit to them without hooking up with them are SOL. Essentially, one deliberately-single woman can cockblock A BUNCH of gals that are searching the same social scene for suitors.

It's definitely a good topic, Julia... People treat being single as "awwwww :(" or "How come you can't find anybody? :(", when, in fact, it's as viable a lifestyle as Long Term Relationships or Serial Monogamy. :D

Hi Bill,
I enjoyed your article and the way you deconstructed those comments with simple math!
"... the fact remains that there are more attractive women & girls in this town than there are guys that know what to do with them."
Definitely agree. I think that people forget though when doing this kind of math is that it's really impossible to figure in the free will factor, i. e. people who choose to be single rather than settle. That defies this whole Darwinian equation.

Excellent points, Erik. :)

I think a lot of women fail to see themselves as being on the low level of priority that they actually are when it comes to guys that have career goals.

It's even worse than you mention because a lot of guys that have 9-5 jobs WORK. AFTER. WORK. on their startups. They really don't have time to lay around watching chick flicks (not that ANY guy wants to do that, but Business is Business) and hanging out at the park looking at butterflies. That's time that could have been well spent advancing their careers instead of playing around.

I think it also adds to the hit & run nature of The Game here. It's like "Hit the street, see what you can do, get back to REAL LIFE, which is working and trying to be the best at something, which is what you came here to do". I think it's also why a lot of people rely on online dating services like OkCupid and PlentyOfFish (and Match, for people that actually feel like paying for some reason). It's better to select from online pictures and then only waste time going out to see if she looks anything LIKE her pictures instead of wasting hours in the street hoping that you get lucky by meeting a chick that you like that actually likes you back. :)
