I don’t believe you and I use these SM tools the same way so I’m curious, how do you like the site revision? Does it fit with your communication needs, etc?
Also, 1057 unread messages?? I got a space constraint message after having about a hundred total.
The site revision is extremely POOR compared to how they used to have it.
It was lame to begin with that they would only update the front page every several hours. However, that got fixed when they added the live stream tab. That way, if you wanted regular Facebook, you selected the main tab and if you wanted to tell what was going on right now, you selected live stream.
On top of that, “live stream” would update automatically, so if you left the page there and did other stuff, you came back to a long list of items. The way it’s set up now, the stream isn’t “live”, but “real-time”, meaning that you can REFRESH if you want to, but other than that, your page is going to remain exactly the same.
I also think the way they changed the profile pages is corny. I see what they’re doing. They’re trying to become twitter-plus, and maybe to a degree friendfeed-plus with the new “like” system.
Functionally, it feels really disconnected… Like awkward. I don’t really know how to explain it, but having 1,250 Facebook friends, what they throw on the front page seems random instead of feeling curated, like the former home page.
“what they throw on the front page seems random instead of feeling curated, like the former home page” – Bill, that’s a good way to capture it. I rarely used the live stream and now that I’m forced onto it I feel like I don’t have a handle on what’s going on. Even with the friend and group filters (upper left) that a UX friend suggested and FB implemented there’s still too much randomness with just 125 friends. Maybe it’s just the default News Feed view? I dunno. I don’t want to outright say it sucks because I keep thinking there must be an audience out there that finds it more useful than I do. I just don’t know who the hell that is. I’ve actually reduced my FB time over the last few days to less than half because I now dread using it. Primarily I used it to repost stuff and to find out who joined an interesting group or is attending upcoming events. I’m not sure anyone’s going to see the reposts anymore without having to go to my profile so why bother? Since I actually have friend lists (there’s a misnomer – it’s really for exclusion) I’ll give those views more of my attention and see how toggling between them goes…
I know tons of people who are not on Twitter, FriendFeed, etc and are just barely on FB. I’m really curious about their reaction given that they’re less familiar with the other paradigms than I am…
I agree, I dislike this not because its just a different look but the functionality is hap-hazarded and confusing. The old layout seemed just fine the way it was, why fix something that ain’t broken?
I think it got worse! Definitely trying to be twitter, while LOSING all the random actions that made it FB. Live Feed was a billion times more useful than this. Now all I get is status updates and wall posts which are @replies basically. I wanna see my status on the main page!
Yeah, that’s another good point. I’m seeing people’s conversations with each other that I’m completely disinterested in. I’m going to have to look into the filtering options to see what I can do about it, but like Sandra was saying, I shouldn’t have to find a personal fix for something they broke that wasn’t broken. :/

That’s pretty funny, huh? 1,057 Unread Messages, hahaha :D

Totally. It seems like they’re looking at the props that other sites/apps have and wondering how they can get a piece of the pie.

maybe if we complain enough they will change it? no one seems to like it.
