Facebook Username or Twitter Handle?
Facebook Username availability may affect the popularity of using one’s Twitter handle (like @BillCammack as identification.
I never used @BillCammack as identification because Twitter is a tool, not a home. The only reason for someone to go to my Twitter page is to click “Follow”. After that, they’ll be following me in whatever app they choose, so my Twitter handle is now worthless to me as a “home base”.
Personally, I tell people to Google Bill, because I’m me. That probably won’t work for you, so we’ll skip on past that one. :D
If you’re branding yourself properly, your screen names will be redundant across networks. This is because when something new shows up, Twitter, Jaiku, Pownce, ustream, livestream, blogtv, whatever.. People that know who you are and what you do are going to look for you as the same name you used in the previous social site. Therefore, your lineup should look like this:
Website: http://BillCammack.com
Twitter: http://twitter.com/BillCammack
Facebook: http://facebook.com/BillCammack
Ustream: http://ustream.tv/BillCammack
etc, etc, etc…..
So, even if you couldn’t just Google me, you would be able to find out what I’m doing by using the username you already know me as on the next new popular site.
The question, then… is now that you have the opportunity to easily identify yourself as:
a) Your own website,
b) Your twitter handle, or
c) Your facebook page,
Which one will you gravitate towards to represent you in your social media interactions, and why?

“One to Many” Communication
Which style of communication do you like better? One to One, or One to Many?
A “non Social Media” friend of mine asked me “What’s new with you?” just now. I showed her a multi-person live video/audio/text chat application that I embedded on my blog, and then she goes “So, what’s new with you?”
I would have thought she was kidding, except I could see from her face and her body language that she felt like I had avoided her question instead of answering it. WHAT’S NEW is that we have this capability now to interact with each other whenever we want to. WHAT’S NEW is that I don’t have to travel to DELAWARE to see, talk to and share a laugh with my cousin. WHAT’S NEW is that I don’t have to waste my time traveling from location to location when I can press one button and talk live to someone RIGHT. NOW.
Once I got her to understand what I was showing her, her response was that she wouldn’t want to use that stuff. She likes telephones, texting, etc. She’s clearly a fan of One to One communication. I’m a fan of One to Many communication. Read the rest of this entry »

Is Infidelity The Last Straw?
This is a reply to a BlogHer article by Liz Rizzo, entitled “My Evolving Thoughts on Infidelity and Forgiveness”
Interesting piece, Liz.
There are lots of situations, such as the one you describe here where people begin to believe one thing, like when they’re small children, and then they never let it go. They believe “There’s someone for everybody” or that they’re going to get married, or that when they DO get married, it’s going to last until they die.
Other concepts, like Santa Claus & The Easter Bunny eventually dissipate. It’s like people agree that at some point, you stop believing in certain fantasies because they were only told to you as a child for a reason, such as to make you “act good” so that Santa will bring you toys.
One major difference between the sets is tests. Eventually, you are TESTED as far as whether Santa brought the toys or your parents did. Your parents win and Santa loses and becomes a non-issue… a fairy tale. People are rarely tested on issues such as fidelity/infidelity, because there’s no market for it… there’s no benefit to anyone. Changeover
Narrator: It’s called a changeover. The movie goes on, and nobody in the audience has any idea.
Narrator: You wake up at Seatac, SFO, LAX. You wake up at O’Hare, Dallas-Fort Worth, BWI. Pacific, mountain, central. Lose an hour, gain an hour. This is your life, and it’s ending one minute at a time. You wake up at Air Harbor International. If you wake up at a different time, in a different place, could you wake up as a different person?
Power & Loss
This is a reply to a comment that reader JS left on “Why Women Have To Be Attractive And Men Don’t”. I thought he had some interesting points and complaints and wanted to make this its own post:
Excellent write-up, JS. Thank you for the detailed comment. :)
I’m going to try to list your points so I can respond. Please let me know if I misunderstand what you’re saying:
- Men don’t have any power in “the dating game”, because women have the power to reject AND choose.
- Women go for men they find facially attractive, so if you have that, you’re golden.. Otherwise, you’re “short”.
- Women say raunchy things about men and wanting to give it up to the guys they think are visually attractive.
- When women get older, they start to lose their sexiness and therefore lose the only power they had over men in the first place.
- Men are at a severe disadvantage, from youth through middle age if they’re not handsome.
ok… As far as men being at a disadvantage, EVERYONE’S at a disadvantage if they’re less physically or visually attractive than the next person. I discussed this over a year ago, in February 2008, in “Life Isn’t Fair”. You’re saying that guys are at a disadvantage when it comes to women in general. I’m saying guys have a disadvantage when it comes to other guys and gals have a disadvantage when it comes to other gals. Life is just BETTER for attractive people. It’ll never be different.
