Facebook: Should You Add Someone You’re Dating?
Reader “Katie” asked me when I felt people who have just started dating should add each other on Facebook.
This is a very interesting question, and potentially complicated.
It depends both on how people utilize Facebook and how they date. Read the rest of this entry »
Who Is Bob?
So I’m at a party and some sort of casual conversation is going on.
There’s a break in the flow, and after a few seconds of silence, this woman says:
“I love my Magic Bullet! :D”
Now.. I live in New York City, where there are entirely too many women and not enough men here to, um…… service the needs of our entire female population. Read the rest of this entry »
Facebook “Upgrade” Sucks Again, As Usual
Facebook “upgraded” our personal profile pages last night.
If you’ve been on Facebook for more than a year, you know why the word upgrade is in quotes. The changes they make are consistent with a computer figuring out probabilities and not with a gregarious human being saying “Changing XYZ would be an UPGRADE to my facebook experience”.
That’s Not How I Speak
I graduated with my degree in Management Information Systems from MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology http://alum.mit.edu/www/billcammack/). Peep the hardware:
There are lots of people that don’t know this.
They don’t know because I don’t tell them. Read the rest of this entry »
What About The Proletariat? [Time, Part 11]
Reader “Justin” asked me what I thought about Net Neutrality the other day, and my response was basically “Not Much”.
His question and the ensuing conversation reminded me of a broader topic, which is “What about the proletariat?”:
The proletariat (from Latin proletarius, a citizen of the lowest class) is a term used to identify a lower social class; a member of such a class is proletarian. Originally it was identified as those people who had no wealth other than their children.
#NOBLOG Status (Plausible Deniability)
Back in 2008, I wrote the Guide To Dating The “Internet Famous”.
Fast-Forward to 2010, and “Things done got too far gone!” :D
At this point, EVERYBODY has a smartphone, EVERYBODY is uploading media to the net and EVERYBODY’S business is in the streets.
Fortunately for all of us, Chrissie B. and Tim K.-S. co-created #NOBLOG status!!! >:D Read the rest of this entry »
Blog Subscribers, Commenters, Lurkers & Passers-By
I had a conversation a few days ago with a friend who asked me what I thought about blogging / podcasting / creating video content, specifically as it pertains to viewership and even more specifically as it pertains to NUMBERS of viewers for content we post to the internet. Social Media Budgeting (Cars, Not Trophies)
Social Media
People always want to know how to make money with social media.
The problem is that social media doesn’t make money FOR you. Social media ENABLES YOU to make money…. maybe.
Everybody wants to know how their sales are going to increase once they hire you to create a website or set them up with a presence on Facebook or Twitter. Read the rest of this entry »
How To Disable Facebook Places Tagging
Facebook just announced their “Places” app which enables people to send updates about where they are right now to their FB friends.
That’s all well & good, except they added the ability for people you’re connected to on Facebook to broadcast YOUR location by tagging you in THEIR location updates. :/ Read the rest of this entry »
Why Facebook Is Retarded (Opt-Out Commenting)
It’s amazing to me how sites and apps seem to be created, conceptualized and programmed by people that don’t actually use them.
Here’s how commenting works.. Read the rest of this entry »
Deleting People From Facebook
Being connected with people on social networks like Facebook, Twitter & Foursquare has taken on a new importance in people’s lives in 2010 AD.
It used to be a frivolous decision whether to add someone as a “friend” or not. It used to be similarly unimportant whether you deleted someone after becoming friends with them. Those days are over. :) Friending and unfriending people is serious business now, as people’s IRL lives spill over into their online presence and “art” begins to imitate life… Read the rest of this entry »
Influence and Numbers
Here’s how fads occur..
Someone does something that other people agree is a good or stylish thing to do and then everyone copies that person.
Eventually, all the guys want to buy the same car and all the gals want to buy the same boots and sunglasses and nobody realizes they’re all following one person’s idea.
One of the social media fads has been to incorrectly categorize the credit people deserve for how large their social network is.
People who are merely information-passers are being said to have influence. Read the rest of this entry »
