Relative Personal Value [Loser Society]

Your relative incompetence doesn’t make me a better person.

I’ve become bored of people trying to take credit for other people’s achievements and attempting to apply other people’s success to their personal resumes.

Here’s how things work in a Meritocracy… The better people get the better stuff. The worse people get the worse stuff.

Period. Continue reading “Relative Personal Value [Loser Society]”

What Your Name Is Worth

What do you do when what your client thinks is fantastic doesn’t meet your personal standards? o_O

If you work in The Arts, such as being a video editor linkedin.com/in/BillCammack, or a music mixer, your professional reputation is going to depend not only on your efficiency, but also on the content & quality of the final product, and how much your client enjoyed working with you.

It’s different from being, say, an accountant, where you can either count or you can’t, and you either count QUICKLY or you don’t. 😀

Since you’re always working for someone else (video production company, record producer), you don’t have final say over the finished quality because someone else is paying you to make THEIR VISION come to life.

So what do you do when what your client thinks is FANTASTIC doesn’t meet your personal standards? o_O Continue reading “What Your Name Is Worth”

Negative, Derivative People

Ever notice how there are some people that always have negative things to say?.. Here’s why.

Creation requires energy.

It takes a certain type of person to make something out of nothing.

I am that type of person. Continue reading “Negative, Derivative People”

Privilege Of Desirability

Reader “Charles” left this comment on my post “Why Guys Catcall”:

Charles: “It’s the downside of the privileged position women occupy. The desired. The valued. Men have no street value, their bodies are not desired, in fact their nudity is considered visual assault. Catcalling may be a way for the oppressed to reclaim power and agency which the mating game forbids them.”

I know Charles personally, and I realize that he really enjoys debate and finding the political significance in just about ANY scenario, haha, but he brings up a valid and important point.

Women complain, as they very well should, that guys that they don’t feel like hooking up with approach them without invitation and discuss whatever type of sex they want to have with her or try to get a date or just tell her how sexy she looks today. That’s now known as Street Harassment. At the same time, the alternate reality of the vast majority of men needs to be considered as well, which is that women *NEVER* approach them and suggest sex. o_O Continue reading “Privilege Of Desirability”

Lies & Boob Jobs

Pretty much every single week, I have to hear about people that fell for the okey-doke because someone SAID one thing and then DID another thing.

Please get a clue.. Stop listening to what people say. Talk is cheap. Actions speak louder than words. Try to focus on reality instead of some fantasy someone pumped into your brain.

Boob Jobs

So I’m watching this week’s ‘Jerseylicious’ episode, and they’re talking about how Olivia wants a “Boob Job”. Continue reading “Lies & Boob Jobs”

Thoughts about the “Fast Company Influence Project”

I can’t tell you anything about the actual Fast Company Influence Project because I never clicked on it. I never came close to clicking on it, which is where I feel we will discover some of the myriad lessons to be learned from this situation.

First Impression

The first time I heard of the project, I didn’t hear of the project.

What I mean by that is that I didn’t realize that I had had a run-in with the project before I realized that a) there was a project and b) people didn’t like it. Continue reading “Thoughts about the “Fast Company Influence Project””

Famous For Nothing [Fame, Part 3]

Two years ago, in May 2008, I wrote “Fame, Popularity & Star Power” and then “Fame (Part 2)” two weeks apart from each other. The main point was that I was trying to figure out how to articulate my thoughts about fame in order to respond to an opinion my friend Dave had expressed about why I do what I do.

I never actually figured out how to exactly articulate the difference between what I’ve done for basically my entire life and what a lot of people do now. Today.. Due to circumstances beyond my control, I ended up watching a video where someone interviewed Melyssa Ford. Continue reading “Famous For Nothing [Fame, Part 3]”

Requests For Action / Fishing For Compliments

Requests For Action

Lux & BillI’m not sure what I think about Requests For Action (RFA)… What I mean by that is that for instance, I’m about to take part for the second year in a row in a videoblogging series that a few of my friends and I do called “New in November” (newinnov.tumblr.com).

Personally, what I would do regarding the site/series is INFORM people that it’s going on or that it’s available. What I would NOT do is request for them to do something about it, such as follow it, reblog it, RT it and DEFINITELY NOT “Please rate my video 5 stars!” :/ Continue reading “Requests For Action / Fishing For Compliments”

Time, Part 04: “Spend Your Money”

Continued from “Time”, Parts 01, 02 & 03:

Free Stuff

“The best things in life are free… But you can keep them for the birds & bees… Now give me money (that’s… what I want) that’s what I want…”

“Your love will give me a thrill… But your lovin’ don’t pay my bills… Now give me money (that’s… what I want) that’s what I want…”

“Money don’t get everything, it’s true… What it don’t get… I can’t use!… Now give me money (that’s… what I want) that’s what I want…”

Everybody loves free stuff! *FREE* *STUFF*!!! 😀

How free is “free”, though? Did you ever stop and think about how much free stuff costs you? Right now, you’re thinking “A-DUH!… It costs me NOTHING, by the definition of FREE!”. So let’s take a look at why some “free” things cost you more than the money you SHOULD have spent on them.

While you think about that as we go through a few examples, consider whether your BUSINESS can afford to utilize “free” goods & services.

Enhancing functionality or productivity

A few weeks ago, I wanted to enhance the functionality of my computer/music/editing setup. I knew exactly where I was and where I wanted to go, but I wasn’t sure about which software I wanted to add to my system. Continue reading “Time, Part 04: “Spend Your Money””
